  The Optics of Refractive Errors and Corrective Spectacle Lenses -
This informative class gives a thorough review of the human eye, how it works and what is wrong when patients are diagnosed with hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. We explained how corrective lenses actually work to restore proper vision to patients afflicted with these conditions. Attendees will receive charts with data on these properties as well as material recommendations based on patient prescription and lifestyle considerations. As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: understand the anatomical reasons that cause hyperopia, myopia, astigmatism and presbyopia; comprehend the science behind corrective lenses and how they address the different visual impairments of your patients; understand the benefits of selling from a prescription and patient lifestyle position.

Optical Advancements in Progressive Design Technology -
The course objective is to provide each participant with a thorough understanding of progressive lens design: what they are; how they work; what can and cannot be done from both design & manufacturing perspectives. We will discuss why no PAL achieves far, mid or near viewing areas as wide as single vision lenses – no matter what the marketing materials claim. As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: understand how some of the leading progressive lens designs compare with others; understand how to fit the majority of presbyopes in the most suitable progressive lens for their unique visual needs to prevent non-adapts; understand the science of aspheric lens technology as it applies to progressive lens designs.

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.   How to Increase Word of Mouth Referrals -
A referral from an existing patient is one of the most powerful forms of advertising available. When patients trust you, they are willing to recommend you to their family and friends. This course is designed to help eye care professional make their practice worth talking about by implementing specific word-of-mouth techniques. As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: demonstrate the ability to identify “Word of Mouth Marketing” and it’s relationship to patient referrals; demonstrate the ability to execute the “Five T’s” necessary to create word of mouth patient referrals; demonstrate the ability to define tools and tracking techniques that will create more word of mouth patient referrals.

Sell Something More Profitable Than Low Price: Positioning Your Practice -
A practice without a marketing plan or unique selling position is in a commodity-like business, where the only basis for choice is price. This results in the default strategy of becoming the “low-cost provider.” This course is designed to assist eye care professionals in determining their Unique Selling Position and provide examples of how to effectively differentiate themselves from their competition. As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: identify the importance of positioning a practice; demonstrate the ability to create a positioning statement; demonstrate the ability to create marketing materials to support a positioning statement.

Secrets to Effective Optical Marketing -

This course is designed to convert marketing skeptics into believers by teaching them easy-to-implement marketing secrets that will provide optical professionals with a competitive edge. As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: identify the primary elements of successful marketing; identify the importance of a properly trained staff to achieve practice growth; demonstrate the ability to implement effective marketing techniques.

1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.  Contact Lenses - Knowing Your Options -
With the speed in which contact lens technology is evolving, it is important to know the different contact lens options available. This course is designed to familiarize the optician with the various contact lens options. The discussion will include differences in materials and designs and why they are important factors in determining the final lens selection. As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: understand the different contact lens options available for fitting the various types of refractive errors (astigmatism, presbyopia, etc.); understand the evolution of contact lens materials and the importance of oxygen permeability for contact lens wearers; demonstrate the concepts discussed with case presentations.

2:15 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. Contact Lens Solutions for Dry Eyes -
This course will cover strategies for comfortable contact lens wear in patients who have dry eye complaints. It offers a systematic approach to preventing and decreasing symptoms of dryness and increasing patient comfort. Topics of discussion will include tear anatomy, basic dry eye diagnostic testing with interpretation, contact lens options, treatments and case presentations. As a result of taking this course, the student should be able to: understand tear dynamics and how contact lenses disrupt it; understand diagnostic tests used to measure the tear film; application of concepts learned to contact lens wearers using case presentations.
