Emotional Intelligence in the Dispensary

Are you permitting your emotions to dictate your optical operations, or are you actively managing your emotions to minimize any irrational and counter-beneficial behaviors? In the dispensary we will undoubtedly face scenarios wherein emotions escalate to unnecessary levels. It is our role to determine the cause and to react appropriately. Through this course, the reader will learn what emotional intelligence is, why it is so important, and how to improve optical operations through properly managing emotions. This course will survey the basic anatomy and physiology of the brain, enabling the student to develop a holistic view of how our emotions are formed and managed. The reader will learn techniques in which they can begin to strengthen their own emotional intelligence. This will translate to better interactions with co-workers and patients alike. Lastly, this course will encourage the student to take inventory of their interactions, as an eye care professional, and increase awareness of certain emotional faux-pas within the industry.

Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: understand exactly what emotional intelligence is and why it is important; recognize the importance of exhibiting a high-level of emotional intelligence in the dispensary; survey the basic anatomy and physiology of the brain; learn how to improve their emotional intelligence.
